A Big Adventure

Normal service will resume with the next post – I have just returned from a quick holiday trip to Tioman Island. A real Malaysian paradise island.

While there I witnessed the holiday makers snorkeling in the clear water and very thoughtfully bringing back plastic bags they found floating in the water, these are dangerous to sea life especially creatures like turtles that mistakenly eat them.

Also while there I met a new hero Rose BatMan Eco Warrior, he single handedly dragged out a trapped fishing net even though he had a broken hand and the current was strong.

Removing the net and associated junk stopped it trapping many more fish, crabs etc.

Sadly a baby parrot fish was trapped in the net and was too badly damaged with the net cutting deeply into it’s body and had to be put out of it’s misery. Other creatures though were saved.

Considering the fact that everybody going out to Tioman pays Rm5  (GB£1) as Marine Park tax, there is very little to be seen being done.

Further around the island we saw jet skis, not what you want to see flying over corals with young reef sharks and turtles swimming close to shore.

Also of course the people who run the resorts never seen to be seen clearing up the water off of there resorts.

Even worse I recently saw shark fins hanging outside of a resort at Ayer Batang, this is an island that makes money from scuba divers and should not be encouraged.
