We take a day trip in Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia
An enjoyable day out in the wonderful Malaysian town of Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia
(this happened on 1st Janaury 2011) in Melaka, Malaysia

Wonderful smiling welcome from the people at the Melaka Immigration desk
Well it’s the morning after the night before and we woke up late and our way to the tenders taking us ashore in Melaka (Malacca).
We love Melaka and have been a few times, so, once on ashore we started to walk towards the Jonkers Walk area, as we were doing so we noticed a few people wandering off in different directions. Sofia and I pointed them in the right directions.
I believe in the quest bto sell excursions by the cruise company, those travellers who prefer to do their own thing are rather left to fend for them selves. The information on the destination and local maps the ships crew hand out are woeful at best.
One couple I spoke to came our way, they were a Canadian chap and his Filipino girlfriend, we pointed them at all the things they might like and left them to it.
Ten minutes later we walked into a restaurant and they were already in there.
We were invited to sit with them and had a nice chat and then separated again.
Jonkers Walk the old chinese part of town, a very attractive area with lots of fun shops and good places to eat and drink.

The streets of Melaka have some beautiful buildings
It was actually too busy to be struggling down in the heat of the day as we had already seen the place on a number of occasions, so, after around 30 minutes we decided to head for the Hotel Puri our favourite hotel in town and went to their courtyard cafe for a nice cool drink and a sit down.
Ten minutes later they turned up, they really had listened to our recommendations!
Sofia enjoyed cold drinks and then headed back out for another go at Jonkers Walk!
We then followed it all up with a very slow walk back to the tender and back onto the boat for our last night onboard the Costa Classica.
Dinner was served and then the staff were paraded around as we stood and applauded them, we personally thanked the staff we had, had day to day contact with, they had all been superb.
Apart from the very poor entertainment’s on board everything was wonderful.
Back at our cabin we had to pack our bags and then place them outside of our cabin door ready to be taken away.
We have to vacate the room by 8:45am.

It’s great that even though you’ve been before you still had a great time and love it enough to keep going back!

IMO, Melaka is one of the most under-rated destinations in all of SE Asia. I think it’s an incredible place to visit.
