All The Birds In The Nest In The Midst Of Our Financial Meltdown

(This happened on) Sunday 26th July, 2009. Las Vegas

Stefan is arriving from Singapore today, he has decided he wants to hook up with us in Vegas, and as we are paying why wouldn’t he?

We got up very, very late Sasha and Basty were still comatose, so, Sofia and I headed out to Walgreens to try and get some cash out of my account, no go, nothing, so we tried Sofias account, we could only take out $200 but better than nothing. We stocked up on lots of water and then went back to the hotel with me feeling pretty miserable about the financial situation.

Eventually we all went out around 6:00pm to search for a suitably cheap food option, we are having to save money as we need to pay the hotel bill with the cash we have left.

We went to over to the MGM and found a hotdog joint called  Nathans, famous for it’s hot dogs apparently.

For half the normal price we have been paying we had a ‘meal’ of about a quarter of the usual size and quality that we have been having elsewhere weird economics. Only Sasha went for hot dogs, choosing the mini hot dogs while the rest of us had chicken in it’s various forms, it was all pretty average, but there you go, fast food!

After our food we decided to walk down the strip heading through the various casinos on the MGM side of the strip.

We strolled through the Paris enjoying all the shops and cafes.

We kept going until we got to the Venetian, it really is incredible it has such a flavor of Italy, of course it is too clean and perfect but none the less the flavor is distinct.

We carried on through to the Palazzo the new sister property to the Venetian. which had opened since our last visit.

We took photos of the Umbrella and rain displays hanging from the ceiling. and finally through to  the magnificent Wynn.

We have never had the pleasure (or the budget) to stay in the Wynn in Las Vegas but we were lucky enough to stay in the then newly opened Wynn in Macau, it was super luxurious and a great experience, and then out to get a taxi and by this time our feet were throbbing.

Sofia caught her leg while getting in to the cab and bruised and cut her leg quite badly, maybe this is our chance, I am sure if we were American we could have sued the Taxi company for an obscene amount of money, or not.

Back at the room I was calling the credit card company trying to get a mini extension of our credit limit to see us through to the end of the month, they could see we had plenty of money in our account but nothing doing, bastards!

Back at Hooters we were reading and relaxing in our room when the phone

went at about midnight, it was Stefan waiting to be let in, he had managed to get an earlier flight out of LA and had arrived eight hours early.

Sasha and Sabastian leapt on him then he came in and gave us a hug, he was very stinky and sweaty (he had flown from Singapore and been traveling for almost 30 hours) but it was great to see him.

Suddenly in the midst of all the financial bollocks we are happy again as all our babies have returned to the portable nest. This is probably the last time we will all be in Vegas together as Stefan is now 19 and Sasha 18, although it would be fantastic if we can have one last hurrah when all three of our kids are old enough to really ‘do’ Vegas.
