A Visit To The Hawaii State Art Museum

(this happened on) Tuesday 14th July, 2009 on Oahu, Hawaii

For a change today we all head out early and we catch a taxi to Aloha Tower in Honolulu.

It’s a very nice modern little shopping area on the pier, although sadly lots of the units were empty.

We stopped for some nice cold drinks and wonderful nachos at Bikini Cantina, definitely worth a try and with a great view across the water, from there I could look down on a  racing yacht from Auckland called Alfa Romeo and next to it was a very expensive looking private ship with a bubbling hottub on the deck.  She was called Sunrise and was stunning, I will never know how people amass the sort of money needed to even run one of these things let alone buy one.

I also enjoyed watching the planes heading in and out of the airport and boats coming in and out of the harbor, quite an enjoyable place to watch the world go by.

After we had all enjoyed our food and munchies we carried on wandering.

We then headed across the road to Honolulu in the financial area we had a quick look through the shops around here and then we stumbled upon the Hawaii State Art Museum, it’s only small taking up space on the second floor of a very nice building. There were some inspiring exhibits including lots of 3D designs.

Sasha loved the scratch board work while I loved the wood sculptures and copper works of art. I liked that there was a good selection of both pictures and sculptures. There was something for everybody and it was good for the soul.

We then walked around some more, After walking around a Ross Store we set off to try and find a cab, it was very hot on the street and cabs were very rare, eventually we found one.

Back at the hotel Sofia put here head down for a rest, while she slept, I went out to try and find a good enough internet signal to allow me to find and book a hotel in LA.

The kids rang our room to ask if they could go to the midnight showing of Harry Potter that was opening tonight, I said no!

Sasha did not want to go out for dinner so it was just Basty and Us that hit the streets.

We went to Tikis Grill & Bar at the end of the road.

Basty was being totally teenageary, his table manners were non existent, he shuffled bread rolls in his mouth, lolled on the table and as for watching him eating ribs, it was too painful to watch.  That said the food was very good.

Afterwards we had a little wander along the beach and watched the waves breaking over the wall.

On the way back to the hotel we called in at the ABC store for water and mango and then back to the room.

We went across to the beach to watch the world go by for a while, waves coming up the beach and people just enjoying the warm evening air.

I really love Hawaii.
